![]() In both Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04 I am unable to mount the drive. I have removed the HDD from the old computer (a 486) and tried to connect it to my desktop using a USB/ATAPI bridge. The tool it is in has been maintained by graduate students for about 20 years. Now it hangs immediately after POST, with the classic "Non system disk. The first time through it hanged while starting Windows 3.11. I replaced the motherboard battery and was able to get the computer to recognize the drive and start booting.
